If you fail a subject do u still get ur HSC?? Thread starter fitzyboy99 Start date Sep 11, I reckon you still will. Depends on what you mean by 'fail' If you just mean getting a bad mark, then you'll still get your HSC. Or if you mean fail as in getting an N grade, then under some circumstances, you won't get your HSC.
You will sit written exams at the same time as everyone else in the state studying the same course. You may also study a course with a practical or performance exam where you are required to submit a major work, perform or speak another language for example. Your personal exam timetable is available in Term 2 in My Details or you can view the full written exam timetable.
There are also certain pieces of equipment you can and can't take into each exam. There is a range of resources available to help you prepare for your exams including study tips and materials, what to expect in the exam and the exam papers, the previous year's HSC Advisory Bulletin, and exam work books available to buy. Once the exams are finished, the BOSTES employs several thousand experienced teachers to mark all the exam papers more than two million writing booklets!
The HSC results are a detailed package showing you the level of knowledge and skills you achieved in each course. If you have any questions or concerns about your results there are different results services you may decide to use, including the HSC Results Inquiry Centre telephone hotline 13 83 23 available after results are released. As far as I know, you can't actually fail the HSC, but you can certainly get a mark that might not get you into the uni course you were gunning for.
But that doesn't mean that you can't still follow your dreams, even if your road might have more pit-stops than most. As someone who personally struggled during high school in general — and subsequently received an ATAR which was a few points close to a mystery mark — it always breaks my heart when I see senior students putting their physical and mental health on the line during exams and result time.
After about half a year of studying, I realised that it was impossible for me to do well at something I had zero interest in and switched courses — which ended up being one of the greatest decisions I've ever made.
You don't need to go to university to get a degree and most companies don't actually care where you were educated, so long as you meet the job requirements and are passionate about what you do.
Now I'm working at my dream job. The number becomes irrelevant very quickly. Your ATAR means nothing — you just have to be willing to work hard later in life. So keep working as best you can and do what you are able. You can work for a while or go to TAFE and then go to uni afterwards. It might slow you down a little, but in the end you, can do basically whatever you want if you want it bad enough.
If you really want to study at uni, you still can, but it may take a while longer — as you will transfer into various degrees as long as you have a credit plus average. I have a mate who got below 50 and is now the head accountant for a large company in the Hunter.
This is just my opinion, but I reckon that unless you want to go straight into uni after high school, the HSC doesn't mean a whole lot. In the seven years since I finished high school, I have been asked about it once. It hasn't stopped me from getting into university or getting a job. You don't need to put so much pressure on yourself with it.
