American here so I can't comment on the first question, but the other two I can. The seats are not comfortable. They are there as an insurance break and to throw stuff in like a shelf. I've ridden in a few CRX's and even after the shortest trip I'm ready to get out.
Technically it's possible to put more comfortable seats there, but it would be more hassle than its worth.
